ASPA SCHOLARSHIP DESCRIPTION
I. MISSION
To recognize the potential for individual excellence in public service through educational assistance to members of the Hampton Roads Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration
II. ADMINISTRATION
Each Year a standing committee will be appointed by the Executive Council to serve as the Scholarship Committee. The committee will make any recommendations on policy matters to the Governing Body. Further, this committee will review applicants' qualifications and recommend the recipient(s) for the award(s) to the Governing Body.
III. ELIGIBILITY
General:
· Hampton Roads Chapter of APSA member
· Resident of Virginia
· All fields of study are applicable as long as they relate to the individual's career or career aspirations in public administration
· Have not been awarded a scholarship by the chapter in the past
Academic:
· Open to undergraduate and graduate students; a minimum of 60 hours of undergraduate college credit is required for undergraduate applicants
· Minimum grade point average in major field or graduate studies is 3.0
· To qualify the student must be enrolled in a course offered by an institution with a presence in Hampton Roads
· Other qualifying applicants are ASPA Chapter members residing and working as practioners in Hampton Roads jurisdictions who are enrolled in related educational programs outside the region; ASPA members already working in Public Service pursuing a degree by an internet course.
