ASPA SCHOLARSHIP ELIGIBILITY CHECK SHEET
General:
q Hampton Roads Chapter of APSA member
q All fields of study are applicable as long as they relate to the individual's career or career aspirations in public administration
q Resident of Virginia
q Is not a previous recipient of this scholarship
Academic:
q Minimum requirements include 60 completed hours of undergraduate college credit.
q Minimum grade point average for completed hours is 3.0
q To qualify the student must be enrolled in a course offered by an institution with a presence in Hampton Roads; be an ASPA Chapter member residing and working as practioners in Hampton Roads jurisdictions who are enrolled in related educational programs outside the region; be an ASPA member already working in Public Service pursuing a degree by an internet course.
Extracurricular:
q The applicants will provide a listing of all of their activities that would be related to civic, community, or professional involvement.
Work Experience:
q The applicants will outline any work experience (including internships) as the experience relates to employment in the federal, state, local, or nonprofit sectors providing places, dates, and summaries of job responsibilities.
References:
q Part-time students will be asked to provide one letter of reference from a work supervisor and one reference from an academic professor. (If not currently enrolled in courses, the second reference may be from a professional source.) Fulltime students will be asked to provide one reference from their advisor and one reference from a professor with whom course work has been taken. One aspect to be addressed in letters of reference is the applicant's potential for success in his or her chosen field of study.
Essay:
q Each applicant will be required to write a 200 - 250 word essay detailing the importance of his or her area of emphasis in the chosen degree program to public administration and why they want a career in Public Service.
